This was an absolutely gorgeous very flat ride. I did 11 miles with the pups. The whole trail is 26 miles round trip through very diverse stream habitat. It’s an old rail trail, and a relatively new bike path (about 4 years old).
I had a problem with the bike about 1/2 way through the ride when the front shifter cable broke. I managed to get it set, but for the rest of the ride it was alternating between high and middle gear (I don’t have low gear). Still, the weather was great, and I saw a couple of bald eagles fishing over Mattawan creek, squirrels, deer, woodpeckers.
At one point, Petey started to limp. I tried to strap him into my backpack for the rest of the ride, but he would not have any part of this. He ended up running the whole way, and even perked up to a sprint when we saw some deer at the end. This was a weird day for me because I was pretty insulin resistant all day, and my blood sugar did not change during the ride.
